Humanitarian Response and Crisis Resilience

Overview

PADet actively engages in humanitarian and emergency response efforts across Ethiopia, supporting vulnerable children, youth, women, and people with disabilities in regions affected by conflict, displacement, drought, and other crises. Our humanitarian work is designed to save lives, alleviate suffering, and lay the foundation for long-term recovery and resilience.

Through a community-centered approach, PADet integrates emergency relief with development interventions—ensuring that crisis response efforts also strengthen local systems and promote sustainable recovery. PADet adheres to Humanitarian Accountability Principles (HAPS) and ensures that all interventions are inclusive, equitable, and responsive to community needs.

Our Focus Areas

PADet’s humanitarian and crisis resilience work spans multiple sectors:

  • Emergency Relief and Recovery: Providing rapid assistance to crisis-affected households through food support, cash transfers, and essential services.
  • Protection and GBV Response: Supporting survivors of gender-based violence in emergency contexts through psychosocial services, case management, and awareness campaigns.
  • Safe Migration and Reintegration: Assisting vulnerable migrants, returnees, and child domestic workers through rehabilitation, skills training, and reintegration support.
  • Child Protection in Emergencies: Safeguarding children affected by conflict and displacement through community-based protection structures and child-friendly spaces.
  • Livelihood and Food Security Recovery: Promoting resilience through watershed management, small-scale irrigation, and skills development to help families rebuild their livelihoods.
  • Education in Emergencies and Accelerated Learning: Ensuring access to education for out-of-school and displaced children through accelerated education programs and psychosocial support.

Ongoing Humanitarian Projects

PADet has implemented multiple emergency and resilience-building projects across Amhara, Oromia, Afar, and Addis Ababa, often in collaboration with international partners and government institutions. Notable initiatives include:

  • Emergency Response Project (Kobo and Jara, Amhara Region): Delivering food and livelihood support to families affected by conflict and drought.
  • Safer Migration and Child Domestic Workers Project (supported by Freedom Fund): Providing protection, rehabilitation, and reintegration services for vulnerable children and youth.
  • Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response Projects (supported by UN Women): Strengthening protection systems and delivering essential services for GBV survivors in crisis-affected areas.
  • “Yene Raey” / My Body My Future 2 (MBMF2) Project (in partnership with Plan International Ethiopia): Addressing adolescent reproductive health and gender equality in conflict-prone regions.
  • Youth Livelihood and Resilience Initiatives (USAID/BHA-supported): Building economic opportunities for young people in vulnerable zones through skills development and job creation.

Through these projects, PADet not only delivers immediate humanitarian aid but also supports long-term community resilience and social stability.

Geographic Reach

PADet operates in four major regions of Ethiopia—Afar, Oromia, Amhara, and Addis Ababa—with field coordination offices in Dessie, Woldiya, Bahir Dar, Ankober, Muketuri, Semera, and Kolfe Keranyo (Addis Ababa). This regional presence enables rapid response to emergencies and ongoing support to vulnerable communities.

Our Impact

Over the past 23 years, PADet has reached more than 5.2 million people through its humanitarian, protection, and development programs. In 2023 alone, PADet implemented 17 projects across Ethiopia—many with strong humanitarian and protection components—focusing on GBV prevention, youth employment, livelihood recovery, and emergency relief.

PADet’s integrated approach ensures that emergency response contributes to long-term stability, social inclusion, and self-reliance. By combining immediate relief with resilience programming, PADet continues to bridge the gap between humanitarian action and sustainable development.

Our Commitment

PADet’s humanitarian work is guided by principles of accountability, neutrality, inclusion, and community participation. The organization works closely with government offices, international NGOs, and local partners to deliver coordinated, impactful, and rights-based humanitarian responses.

Through collaboration, innovation, and community trust, PADet continues to help Ethiopian communities recover from crises and rebuild their lives with dignity.
